In the words of Dr. Haverhals:

This type of machine is often used to, for example, manufacture millions of square feet per month of flooring products at high quality and low cost. NFW has now proven this technology produces our zero-plastic/zero-petrochemical/all-nutrient MIRUM (& TUNERA as well) materials with high quality. This type of manufacturing requires zero water and is highly efficient. Because all of the ingredients into MIRUM & TUNERA (and the rest of NFW’s platform) are all low-cost + abundant nutrients, this means that the unit economics of these materials enables massive scale and thus hugely positive global impact.

As Sneaker Impact continues to do R&D on how grinding and separating sneakers to utilize as materials to make other items, it’s always inspiring to watch a company doing extremely important work increase productivity in a way that will allow them to assist more companies in becoming less dependent on plastics. These machines are not cheap, and this should not be taken lightly and most definitely should be celebrated. Nice job NFW. We hope to support your work, although you probably don’t have a need to take on recycled content for your products. Until a better method of make is implemented across the board for all brands, we will continue to work on finding solutions for those kicks created with harmful and toxic materials.
